Fan Pull Chain Broken

Replacing a broken pull chain switch on a ceiling fan.

Pop the broken chain off of the disc using a screwdriver. In many units the light pull goes. Ceiling fans with lights have a pull chain to turn the fan or the lights on or off. Today we fix a pull chain for the fan control of a ceiling fan for free.

This is an easy fix that takes little time. A few models do allow you to reattach the chain but you must access the switch before. Also the light switch itself may wear out or fail. Instructions add a pull chain extension.

These pull chains get pulled on daily and can be broken. Remove the broken piece of chain from the mechanism. Unscrew the ceiling fan base. Turn off the power to the fan.

When ceiling fan pull chain is broken inside of the ceiling fan. All of the contents inside the switch will be loose making it easy to simply take them out. Remove the contents of the switch including the broken piece of chain connected to a disc and the spring. If the remaining pull chain on the ceiling fan extends at least half an inch out of the fan. You can also get a replacement light switch if that pull chain is broken. Remove the old switch connected to the pull chain by unscrewing the wire nut it is connected to and pulling it out.
